Should my deck be stained, oiled or painted?

It depends on the timber and how you use it. Oils and stains soak in, show off the grain and are easy to recoat, while a solid paint or trafficable coating gives a uniform colour and the toughest wear. We look at your boards and how much sun and traffic they cop, then recommend what will last.

Can you bring a grey, weathered deck back?

In most cases, yes. Greyed timber is usually just surface weathering. We clean and sand it back to sound timber, treat it, and the colour and life come right back with the new finish. If a few boards are genuinely rotten we will flag them so they can be swapped before we coat.

How soon can we use it again?

Most deck finishes are walkable within a day and fully cured over the following days, so we give you clear times for light foot traffic and for moving the outdoor setting back. We sequence the work so you are not locked out of the whole yard at once where we can help it.

Strip it back to good timber

A fresh coat over flaking finish or grey, furry boards will not hold. We strip or sand the old coating back, deal with nail pops, splinters and rough patches, and clean the timber down so the new finish actually grips. On decks we make sure water can drain through the board gaps instead of sitting and rotting the timber.

The right finish for the job

Not every timber wants the same thing. A deck underfoot needs a tough coating that copes with traffic and sun. A fence or feature screen might suit a rich stain or a solid colour to tie in with the house. We talk through stain versus oil versus paint, brush samples onto the actual timber, and pick what suits how you use the space.

Colour that ties the yard together

Fences and decks are big surfaces, so their colour matters as much as the house. We match or contrast them to the walls, the trims and the garden so the whole property reads as one. A dark stain to ground a deck, a soft grey green on a boundary fence, a crisp solid colour on a front gate, whatever pulls it together.

Once it is prepped we lay the coats on properly, working with the weather so nothing goes on damp or in hammering sun. The result sheds water, holds its colour against the UV, and is easy to keep up with a simple recoat down the track rather than another full strip back.
